I made this B&W edit following some friendly advice. The original was in color, this was taken in the bridge that surrounds the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. In said bridge they have a system that releases a lot of steam every half and hour, I don't know what is the purpose of this, I guess its ornamental. So I was waiting for someone to walk by and suddenly all this steam comes off and this lady pulls out her umbrella and goes through the fog, when I saw the quickview of the photo in the back of my camera I got really excited, I thought to myself "this might be a good pic"

From The Mariners' Museum, USS Monitor's Revolving Gun Turret. The Civil War ironclad USS Monitor was notable for many reasons, including participation in the Battle of Hampton Roads- March, 1862. The battle redefined naval technology and changed the world's navies. Monitor's innovative technology included an iconic ship-mounted revolving gun turret, the first ever. On December 31, 1862 the ironclad sank in a storm off Cape Hatteras, NC. The ship was rediscovered in the 1970s and became the first National Marine Sanctuary under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admin. (NOAA). NOAA designated The Museum as the official repository for all recovered Monitor artifacts. To date, conservators at The Museum have successfully reduced the corrosion rate and are making great strides in overall preservation. The process of preserving the massive and fragile turret requires considerable expertise, resources, research, and time. This endeavor is the largest marine-recovered metals conservation project in the world.

From the Hermitage Museum and Gardens, Korean 18th century Sakyamuni Triad silk tapestry. This painting depicts the central figure of Buddha seated dhyanasana on a raised dias and backed by a double nimbus. He is flanked by elaborately costumed and bejeweled bodhisattva, probably Avalokitesvara and Mañjusri. In the background are attendant Buddhas. In front are two figures in monastic garb. The figure in brown robes to the right is the Arhat Añgaja (Yin-chie-the Tsun-chê), one of the Buddha's original eighteen disciples. The bhumisparsa (Earth-touching) mudra identifies the figure as the Historical Buddha, Sakyamuni, at the moment he reaches Enlightenment and touches the earth. There are only three paintings comparable to this. It is a cornerstone of the Museum's Asian collection. Its presence on display would give breadth to the Hermitage's Asian acquisitions. Without conservation it cannot be put on display due to its fragile state.
